When things go wrong in the salon

When things go wrong in the salon 😰

Here is a picture of me sleeping.... this was on a flight to Amsterdam for my Sister in laws hen weekend a few years ago.

Its certainly not the most attractive picture in the world πŸ˜‚ BUT if you zoom in to my eyebrows you will see that ive got burn marks. This was from waxing.

Why did this happen? Because id been using retinol... not only do i have a little bit in my eyecream but i had been using it at night in a cream form too and when i really think about how i apply my products..... I over lap them, so im covering my eyebrows too.... double retinol just below my eyebrows πŸ‘€

I didn't think to mention that id be going crazy with the retinol application , the wax came off - i was burnt πŸ™ˆ. Did i blame the therapist? Nope not at all. These things happen.

I was teaching today for fab therapists and we were all talking about mistakes we had made.... the thing that the therapists had noticed.... was an increase in eyebrow/top lip burning.

Nowadays we are using products with acids and retinol/retinoids etc in them. Our skincare is much stronger. Years ago when i did waxing this wasnt something i worried about as none of my clients probably would be using skincare like that.

Now, probably 50% of my clients are using retinols, acids....

The upside of this is, we are all looking younger and fresher and the deeper part of our skin will be thicker.... but the OUTER part of our skin will be thinner. Β Our skin cells are less likely to "stick together", so we can shed them easier/quicker

So because of this, when we rip wax off the skin, it causes the skin to come off deeper than it should, causing irritation or burning.

Some will say "well the therapist should be checking at every appointment" LETS BE REAL.... we see so many clients in a day. Even asking "has anything changed in your consultation form"? Probably wont trigger your client to think "yeah my new serum has glycolic acid/retinol in it"

We are only human and things happen.

Next time something goes wrong.... could it be your fault?πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Are you on medication that thins the skin? New skincare? Have you been to the sunbeds? Just jumped out a hot bath?

Fess up people!

In the beauty therapy world its Β "ALWAYS THE CLIENTS FAULT" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ we just dont say this to your face, but we are NEVER wrong, we are super human with super human powers. Our capes are just invisible πŸ¦Έβ€
